Description:
Today, most commercially available CIGS based solar modules with high efficiencies are processed on glass substrates. The industrial standard substrate is soda-lime glass, since this type of glass is available in industrial quantities at low cost and fits to CIGS process conditions in terms of CTE. However, the influence of the glass substrate on the CIGS deposition process and the later device performance is fairly not well understood. During this work it has been found that besides CTE-adoption the glass substrate can enable a significant efficiency improvement of CIGS-based solar cells, if it shows high temperature stability and tailored sodium out-diffusion.
